Having a gay old time
Yesterday, our mini Mardi Gras festival called “Midsumma” kicked off with the Carnival Day in Alexandra Gardens.
I was expecting the temporary fencing and $5 entry fee, but was pleasantly surprised they’d learnt by the mistakes of the past few years and made it more open again.
Carnival seems to bring out the best and also the worst of the gay community. From wherever they hide for the rest of the year, suddenly they’re all out and proud and in your face.
There were some pretty boys, and not so pretty boys. And there were some people getting around who were downright scary.
There were a couple of DOM’s (dirty old men) who appear at every gay event, and even some non gay events (e.g. the Viet Tet Festival) - as long as there’s young Asian boys present, they’ll appear. A couple of naive asian guys who have questionable taste were also in tow. Bleh.
I ran into some friends acquaintances people I hadn’t seen in awhile, and also others i’d have preferred not to have seen at all.
During my wanderings I also ran into my ex, who had spent 45 minutes looking for a parking spot. That just made me love my bike more - it’s good being able to park anywhere on the footpath, for free. Yay!
All in all it was a fairly fun day, I spent most of the time with some new friends i’d made in the Bike Club, camped on their picnic rug and just enjoying the nice weather. The food on offer was hideously overpriced crap though ($4.50 for a 600ml Coke!), so I took a slight detour over to Fed Sq for something mildly healthier, and a lot tastier.
Things started to pack up and wind down around 5.30, so we packed our things and headed home as well.
I still haven’t decided if i’ll participate in Pride March, but wave if you see me
————————
I’m suffering a case of the Monday Blues today, but still managing to get some work done. Visual Studio is being a bitch though, crashing a lot when trying to debug. Meh.
Having no leftovers to bring to work, I was at the mercy of our Cafeteria. I’m planning on having Fettuccine Carbonara tonight, so their crappy version was off the list. Pie, chips, etc? All unhealthy. Salad? Chewing cardboard is tastier than what they serve up. Hot dog? Overpriced and no nutrition to speak of. Sigh..
Nasi Goreng it is… stupidly ignoring my intuition - something I seem to be doing a lot lately.
I got back to my desk, and wasn’t overly surprised that it tasted nothing like what Nasi Goreng is supposed to be. It was almost mushy, so they hadn’t used day old rice. It had too much vegetable, and the taste was just so foreign it was an insult to even call it Nasi Goreng! Nasty Goreng would be a closer description for this shit. I hate wasting food, but the whole container went straight in the bin. Fucking disgusting.. they’ve reached a new low.
Lunch is now a coffee. Healthy? Oh, shut up, can’tbelieveyoujustsaidthat. It contains milk, innit?
